Commemorating 250 Years Since the Signing of the Declaration of Independence

OUR FULL SLATE OF ACTIVITIES

11 AM - Opening Ceremonies - Raising of the Grand Union Flag - Opening Prayer - A special rendition of "God Bless America." Former State Troubadour Tom Callinan will continue the program with his collection of patriotic folk songs, including the one he wrote for Samuel Huntington.

12:50 PM - Scotland’s Poet Laureate Susan Powers delivers a poem about Samuel Huntington.

‍ ‍1 PM - A slideshow presentation on the 4 signers of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut.

1:40 PM - Visitors are invited to sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence.

1:50 PM - Visitors are invited to read the Declaration of Independence. At the end of this reading, a cannon will fire a salute, signaling for the Congregational Church bell to ring 13 times. This coincides with the 2 PM national tribute commemorating the 13 original colonies and their quest for independence from British rule.

It’s a Huntington Weekend in Scotland and Norwich!

On July 18th, we invite you to Samuel Huntington’s birthplace in Scotland to discover more about his early life. Then, on July 19th in Norwich, there is the wreath laying ceremony followed by a walking tour of the Huntington Homes around the historic Norwichtown Green area.
