THE HUNTINGTON FAMILY ASSOCIATION (1907 - 2024)
A large reunion of Huntington descendants (approx. 500) was held at the First Church, Norwichtown, CT Sept. 1, 1857. It was the outcome of genealogical work and communication done by several members of the family, including that of the Rev. E. B. Huntington. From that reunion emerged (1) the appointment of a committee to cooperate with Rev. Huntington in publishing a record of the family, and (2) a resolution to meet again in fifty years.
A Genealogical Memoir of the Huntington Family in this Country, embracing all known descendants of Simon and Margaret Huntington who have retained the family name, and the first generation of descendants of other names," by the Rev. E. B. Huntington, A. M., was published in 1863. It has long been out of print.
The second reunion occurred in Norwichtown on Sept. 2, 1907, in which the Huntington Family Association was started and an interim Executive Committee set up. A third reunion was held again in 1912. In this, a Huntington Family Association constitution was adopted.
The Huntington Family Association continued to operate from 1907 to 2024, holding family reunions roughly every five years and publishing annual newsletters. During this time, the Huntington Family genealogy was documented in several books, published in 1915, 1962, 1987, and 2013. In 2024 the Association merged with the Governor Samuel Huntington Trust/Museum. Any interest in the books or your family history should be directed to them via this web site.
